Valentines Day 2022: What you need to know

You’ll need ice cream. Lots of ice cream.

We’re about to face this pandemic’s second Valentine’s Day, and you’d be forgiven if you’re not feeling particularly romantic at this stage in proceedings. Somewhere out there, though, one of your customers is picking a card, dusting off a tux, putting in an order for 12 long stemmed red roses, and hoping to nip to the shops to grab their romantic three course dinner for two. So even if you’re not feeling it this year, it’s time to stock the freezers full of delicious Valentine’s treats… for them.

Classic at home Valentines Day desserts

Valentine’s Day desserts traditionally incorporate two of the world’s best known aphrodisiacs – chocolate and strawberries. We say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it; we’ve got plenty of both to choose from.

Strawberry cheesecake always goes down a treat at this time of year, as does a classic New York cheesecake, which can be topped with the customer’s fruit of choice (think fresh raspberries and blueberries).

On the subject of chocolate, you can’t go wrong with a delicious gateau or a decadent chocolate fudge cake; both perfectly round out a romantic meal.

One of 2022’s big trends is for comfort eating – we should expect to see nostalgic flavours such as sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble and jam roly poly cropping up on menus as people seek familiarity from food. It makes sense to get some old favourites in stock, so people can share them with their loved ones, too.

Restaurant desserts for Valentine’s Day

Speaking of sharing – if you’re in the restaurant business, then you know that this is the season of ‘we’ll take one pudding with two spoons’, so it’s time to fill your freezers with incredible desserts that are impossible to resist! Erlenbacher’s gorgeous raspberry brownies are rich and moreish, while Sidoli’s caramel apple pie combines the aforementioned nostalgic flavours with a sleek, chic appearance. Check out the catering desserts section on our new website for more fabulous ideas.

Ice cream

It wouldn’t be dessert without a scoop of ice cream on the side, so whether you’re shopping for retail consumers or restaurant customers, be sure to stock up on trusty vanilla before February 14th! We have everything from luxury handmade gelato to big name brands, plus different options for diabetic and dairy-free customers, too.

As a big name in ice cream sales, we also know that ice cream can be the main event when it comes to dessert. Watch your customers get excited about Marshfield Farm’s Rhubarb and Custard, for example, or see them transported back to childhood with Kelly’s of Cornwall’s candyfloss flavour. If you’re stocking up for the shop, ice creams at a slightly higher price point sell well at this time of year; try Booja Booja’s amazing vegan Hazelnut Chocolate Truffle tub, or Haagen Dazs’s new Dark Chocolate and Caramelised Almond. There’s only one question: one scoop or two?
